The Forte Award
Celebrating the Strength and Excelling of Oswestry School pupils

This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster. He was delighted to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

Jasper (3rd Form)
On the first weekend in October, Jasper took part in the Irish Skiing Championships in Kilternan. He acquired 2nd place on both the Saturday and Sunday, and his coaches were immensely proud of him. Jasper has one more competition in the south and then he is off to the Aurora Cup in December, which is a night giant slalom and night slalom race in Geilo, Norway. Following that, Jasper will travel to Switzerland to take part in the Welsh Championships again. We're all very excited to hear how he gets on – best of luck, Jasper!

Max (L6th Form)
Since joining in September Max has embraced the challenge of getting into the first XV and he has been successful in doing so. His physical capabilities are impressive and his skills and tactical awareness are continuing to develop. Even picking up a Man of the Match as voted for by his peers in the one fixture.

James (4th Form)
James has really flourished over the last year. He is taking responsibility for his learning and keen to achieve his full potential. James is able to self reflect and implement strategies to support his levels of progress. Keep going James.

Amir (4th Form)
Since joining Amir has had a great attitude to rugby and this shows in his development. No matter the result of a fixture or the weather he is always happy whether it's his tackling or ball carrying ability that he has improved.

Matvei (4th Form)
He has picked up rugby and embraced the challenge, always asking questions and keen to learn more. He is making good progress and has even signed up to rugby club and represented the school now in fixtures which is great to see.

Ollie (2nd Form)
For his fantastic efforts and development in rugby this term. In addition, in terms of academic support, Ollie has just had his annual review and was able to confidently articulate how he is growing in independence in the classroom. He is now seeking less support and taking academic learning risks independent of support. Great job Ollie!

Harry (L6th Form)
This weekend Harry volunteered as a Sports Leader at the Shrewsbury Prep School Cross Country Championships. This involved warming up our teams, following them on the course to support them and being a role model to the other pupils as a cross country runner himself. Well done Harry for embracing this sporting opportunity.

Zac (U6th Form)
At the end of September, Zac took part in the hilly Shrewsbury Half Marathon, finishing 17th out of 1,300 runners with an impressive PB of 1:21:08. This weekend Zac completed the Oswestry 10K in a very respectable 36 minutes, and also volunteered as a Sports Leader at the Shrewsbury Prep School Cross Country Championships. Well done Zac for seizing the opportunities available to you, you should be very proud of your achievements thus far.

Ceci (5th Form)
Freya (5th Form)
Issy (5th Form)
These girls are going above and beyond to further their studies and achieve the grades they are capable of. They have given up their time to engage in academic coaching and show real determination to succeed.

Milla (L6th Form)
Pearl (5th Form)
Excellent work in the UKMT Mathematical Challenge for Girls. Best in Year.

Edie (4th Form)
Edie has returned to Oswestry School with a real zeal for learning and despite any obstacle she may face she overcomes it with a smile on her face. She demonstrates true resilience and is an example to us all.

Max (2nd Form)
Max swam his 200m distance badge this week. His resilience shone through as he completed this distance, despite feeling exhausted. This was a real achievement for Max who, when he first started, would not even put his face in the water. Max has also been working hard on his stamina and managed to tread water last week for 30 minutes with just two very short breaks in between. Mrs Edwards is very proud of Max's improvement with his swimming and he was delighted to have achieved his 200m distance badge.
