Our Aims, Ethos and Philosophy

Student learning in an academic class at Oswestry School.

We aim to be an excelling all-through school that enjoys a strong reputation as a leading school in Shropshire, known for its distinctive whole-person educational model. Pupil and staff wellbeing is central to our culture and ethos and, as a small school, we seek to protect the family feel of our close-knit community. True to the progressive vision of our foundation we aim to provide a transformative educational experience for pupils within our local community and, through our internationally diverse community of boarders, we are committed to global education and the intercultural fluency of all pupils.

We seek to deliver personalised teaching and learning and an excitingly diverse co-curricular programme, with excellent resources and facilities for pupils, staff and our local community. We are committed to supporting all pupils and, as a non-selective school, firmly believe that achievement and success are not measured by exam results alone. We celebrate the efforts of all pupils and staff, encouraging and nurturing our community to be lifelong learners in an inclusive and inspiring environment.

Teaching and learning are at the academic heart of our school but we firmly believe that learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom, and in preparing our pupils for adult life Beyond School, we seek to provide them with the skills, attitudes and aptitudes to enable happy, successful living.

Above all, we seek to learn not just for school but for life.
