Guinevere House

Meet the Guinevere House parents

With a background in Social Anthropology, Criminology, and Law, Elizabeth McGuire brings a thoughtful and nurturing approach to her role as Housemistress of Guinevere House. Since joining Oswestry School in 2016, first as Matron and then as Housemistress from 2019, she has played a central role in shaping the compassionate, close-knit atmosphere that defines the house.

At home, Elizabeth shares life with her husband, their two grown-up children, and Chewy—a lively and mischievous Welsh Border Collie who is very much part of the Guinevere family. Known for his boundless energy and love of long countryside walks, Chewy is a familiar and much-loved companion to the girls in the house.

Discipline, perseverance, and respect are values Elizabeth holds close—rooted in her long-standing passion for martial arts, which began with a black belt in Shotokan Karate at the age of 15 and continued through her university years, where she trained under a 9th Dan Japanese master. These values underpin her belief in creating a safe, respectful environment where girls feel free to be themselves and grow in confidence.

For Elizabeth, Guinevere is more than just a boarding house—it’s a family. She works to ensure every girl feels a strong sense of belonging, surrounded by kindness, trust, and genuine support. Her approach balances gentle guidance with room for independence, helping the girls flourish in every sense—academically, socially, and emotionally.

What she loves most about Guinevere is the sense of sisterhood. From peaceful early morning book clubs to impromptu chats over tea, from house trips to the Shropshire hills to the infectious laughter in the common room, it’s in these moments of connection and joy that the true heart of Guinevere shines through. It’s a house where warmth, encouragement, and friendship thrive.

Bedrooms are light and comfortably furnished, with a mix of single, double, and triple rooms. Each room includes dedicated study space, wardrobes, and secure, lockable storage for personal belongings—providing both privacy and practicality for every boarder.

At the heart of the house is a cosy shared kitchen and inviting communal lounge areas where girls can cook, chat, and relax together. These homely spaces are the backdrop for everything from quiet evenings in to lively weekend gatherings, helping to create lasting friendships and treasured memories.

Guinevere House blends the comfort of home with the structure of boarding life, offering a supportive and caring atmosphere where girls are encouraged to grow in confidence, explore new opportunities, and flourish as individuals.
