Examination Results
We place particular importance on value-added progress, which uses externally validated data from GL Assessment to measure the growth each pupil achieves throughout their time with us. This provides a clear picture of how much impact our teaching, care, and learning environment have on individual outcomes.
Unlike raw exam results, value-added scores tell us how much progress each pupil has made compared to pupils with similar ability profiles across the UK.
Early in their school journey, each pupil takes a CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test). This gives a baseline of their potential based on national averages. GL Assessment then uses this data to predict what pupils with similar starting points are likely to achieve at GCSE or A Level.
When our pupils sit their exams, GL Assessment and the school compare their actual results with their predicted outcomes. The difference is their value-added score.
What the Scores Mean?
- A score of 0 means a pupil performed as expected
- A positive score means they did better than expected
- A score of +1.0 means pupils achieved one whole grade higher per subject, on average, than similar pupils nationally
