Holbache House

Meet the Holbache House Parents

With over 25 years of experience in boarding education alongside his wife Nicola, Steve Schofield brings a wealth of pastoral care and a deep understanding of community life to Holbache House. Before moving into the world of education, he worked as the Junior Development Officer at Leicestershire County Cricket Club—a role that reflected his love of sport and his commitment to nurturing young talent.

At home, family life is shared with their beloved dog, Ernie—affectionately known as “Big Ern” when he’s on duty, or “Bernard” when he’s being cheeky. Time spent with his own children is what he values most, and this belief in the importance of family underpins his approach to boarding.

He sees a clear boundary between the structure of the school day and the relaxed, supportive environment of boarding life. For him, Holbache should always feel like home—a place where pupils can unwind, reflect, and move forward with confidence. It’s a safe space, full of kindness, humour, and encouragement—a foundation from which boys and girls can grow into their best selves.

What he loves most about Holbache is the camaraderie. There’s a strong sense of pride among both staff and pupils in the caring, close-knit home they’ve created—where every individual is valued, and everyone can thrive together.

Mr and Mrs Schofield are supported in Holbache by Matron, Beth Drew and Assistant House Mistress, Sue Fensome.

Holbache House offers a modern, welcoming, and co-educational boarding environment tailored specifically for our Sixth Form pupils. With a capacity for up to 50 pupils, Holbache House provides a balance of independence and community, helping pupils thrive both academically and socially during their final school years.

Fully renovated to a high standard in 2024, Holbache House is ideally located just opposite the Sixth Form Centre, making it exceptionally convenient for pupils to access their classes and study resources.

Accommodation is arranged across two distinct wings – one for boys and one for girls – each with its own private kitchen and social space, fostering a sense of independence and community among boarders. In addition, all pupils share a central common room, a well-equipped communal kitchen, and a spacious outdoor terrace and garden – perfect for socialising, relaxing, or enjoying outdoor activities.

Each double room is thoughtfully designed and includes an ensuite bathroom, a comfortable bed, a personal study desk with shelving, a wardrobe, and a lockable safe for valuables, ensuring pupils have everything they need for both study and personal belongings.

Holbache House is more than just a boarding house – it’s a supportive, vibrant home-from-home for Sixth Formers, offering the space, facilities, and community they need to flourish.
