The Forte Award
Celebrating the Strength and Excelling of Oswestry School pupils

This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster and Deputy Headmaster. They were delighted to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

Will (1st Form)
Will has made a tremendous amount of progress since joining the school. He has thrown himself into Oswestry life and Head of Lower School, Mr Taylor, has been impressed by how many staff have praised him recently for his politeness and his positive attitude. To do all of this in a second language is commendable.

Hector (3rd Form)
Hector is making real strides forward in his learning and works hard in and out of the classroom to support his development of knowledge and skills. He produced excellent work in his science afterschool intervention. Well done Hector-keep up the good work.

Maisey (L6th Form)
Maisey recently achieved great success at Crufts with her dog Fern, who many of you will know around campus. Fern is a therapy dog currently in training, and together they qualified for the Royal Kennel Club, Young Handler of the Year Finals held at Crufts International Dog show last week in Birmingham. After qualifying in the Gundog category back in October, Maisey competed in the national final alongside 26 young handlers from across the country in her age group. Judges assess how handlers work with and present their dogs in the show ring, making it a true test of partnership between handler and dog. Foot perfect, Maisey and Fern were highly commended, an impressive achievement given Fern's young age.

Dax (4th Form)
Dax thoroughly deserves this Forte award in recognition of his unwavering commitment, dedication and bravery when representing the school at rugby. This year in particular he has been exceptional, consistently putting himself at the forefront of the physical challenges the team faces. Dax should be very excited about the upcoming tour to South Africa, where his direct and abrasive style of play will be particularly well suited. He was outstanding during the Sevens last week and made a significant impact throughout. There is no doubt that Dax has a bright future in the game as he continues to develop and channel his competitive instincts.

Yimika (L6th Form)
Lena (L6th Form)
For taking the initiative to organise, prepare and present our Boarding Community Chapel Service on Sunday evening. It was a wonderful service - thank you so much! Thank you for your presentation and for the way you encouraged others to get involved and contribute.

George (3rd Form)
George is going above and beyond in his studies and being proactive with his time. He is engaging in extra literacy sessions to strengthen his knowledge and understanding of A Christmas Carol.

Jerry (4th Form)
Jerry has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few weeks in approaching tests with more confidence. He is beginning to see his strengths and is showing a growth mindset.

Jerry has also shown unwavering commitment, support and dedication to the rugby programme at Oswestry School. Throughout the season he has shown tremendous resilience, both in matches and in training, consistently demonstrating the passion, commitment and determination that drive the team forward. Jerry is a fantastic young man with a very bright future ahead of him. His physical attributes – speed, power and pace – have made a significant contribution to the success Oswestry School has enjoyed this year. His resilience was particularly evident at last week’s Sevens, where he played an important role in many of the team’s positive moments.

Rory (5th Form)
After not racing for 2 years Rory took part in two skiing races on Saturday 28th February. He was invited by his club - Stoke Scorpions - to race in Pendle in the morning and Telford in the evening. In Pendle, Rory's three man team came first (out of four teams) in their age group. Then to Telford for the evening skiing race. This race meet consisted of 3 single races and the times were accumulated. There were 43 racers in total and Rory came 26th. This is a massive achievement for someone who has not raced in two years. Well done Rory.

Josie (5th Form)
Josie has really settled into the busy life of school over the last few weeks and has a positive attitude towards her studies. She is incredibly hardworking and is achieving her full potential. It is wonderful to see her smiling around campus. Well done Josie!

Tristan (5th Form)
From the early days of the Wednesday Hiking group, Tristan has been an ever-present, reliable, friendly and enthusiastic member of the group. Whatever the weather, his enthusiastic attitude typifies the Oswestrian values and virtues and as such it is a pleasure to nominate him for a forte award.
