A Shropshire Homecoming

Oswestry School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Roy Chambers as Housemaster of School House from September 2026.

It is a return to Shropshire for Roy and his family following their time at nearby Packwood Haugh School, where he was a boys’ boarding housemaster for five years alongside leadership roles during his thirteen years there as Deputy Head, Director of Studies and Head of English.    An English graduate from the University of York, Roy has a PGCE in English and Drama from the University of Warwick and holds a Masters in Education (Leadership and Management).

Roy joins us from the International British School of Bucharest, where for the past three years he has been Deputy Head Pastoral.  Roy and his family are greatly looking forward to joining Oswestry School and the School House boarding community, and returning to a county where they already have established roots. Roy’s wife Cristina is a trained counsellor and is looking forward to playing an active role in boarding and school life, and with two children themselves, they’ll bring a family feel to our home from home boarding environment.

Roy commented, ''We are hugely looking forward to returning to Shropshire this summer and joining the thriving community at Oswestry School. Our three years abroad have been culturally enriching and provided me with invaluable experience of leading a pastoral care team in a high-performing British secondary school overseas. We look forward to bringing this international perspective back to Shropshire and enriching the lives of the Oswestry boarders in our care.''

Headmaster Peter Middleton commented, “We are delighted to be welcoming Roy and his family back to Shropshire.  With a wealth of experience in pastoral care and a strong advocate for the benefits of boarding, I’ve every confidence that Roy will lead the School House community with the same calm and compassionate leadership that has shone brightly through his career journey, and we look forward to seeing our boarders thrive, flourish and find their forte under his care.”

“I’m very grateful indeed to Kay Lowry who has served the boarding community of School House with dedication and commitment over the past five years in her capacity as Housemistress, and she hands over a happy, healthy and thriving boarding house for Roy and the wider boarding team to steward in the years ahead.”
