Thomas Lay Shines at the European Championships
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Thomas Lay, whose remarkable summer season has continued with further international success.
Following his impressive 13th place finish at the European Pentathlon Championships in Lithuania earlier this year, Thomas travelled to Turkey to represent Great Britain at the European Biathle, Laser Run and Triathle Championships.
Having secured his place with first and second place finishes in the national qualifying rounds, Thomas arrived in Turkey ready to take on the continent’s strongest competitors in challenging heat.
He delivered a truly exceptional performance in the Laser Run, finishing 3rd overall and securing his first-ever European podium finish. His success continued throughout the championships, competing in the Laser Run Relays, Biathle, and Triathle events. He placed 9th in the Triathle (despite a small time penalty) and played a vital role in helping the GB team claim bronze.
Across all events, Thomas brought home an outstanding two silver medals and three bronze medals, firmly establishing himself as one of Great Britain’s leading Under 15 athletes.
Next up, Thomas will compete in the GB full pentathlon ranking rounds at Bath University as part of the PentathlonGB Performance Pathway, where he will aim for selection for the 2026 European Pentathlon events.
A huge congratulations to Thomas on his incredible dedication, resilience, and international success. He continues to be an inspiration to pupils across Oswestry School.
