A Festive Trip to A Christmas Carol

5th Form Literature

This week, our 5th Form Literature students enjoyed a memorable visit to Theatre Severn for a unique and imaginative adaptation of A Christmas Carol by the Dickens Theatre Company.

With the remainder of the acting cast stranded on a train, the production took an unexpected twist. Charles Dickens himself, accompanied by his loyal tour manager George Dolby, stepped in to perform not only Ebenezer Scrooge but more than thirty characters between them. The result was a remarkable display of energy, creativity, and storytelling that kept pupils captivated from start to finish.

This inventive two-actor approach brought the classic text to life in a fresh and engaging way, making it an excellent revision opportunity for our GCSE students. After the performance, pupils were delighted to meet and chat with the actors, gaining further insight into the play’s themes, characters, and theatrical interpretation.
