Co-curricular Literature

On Thursday 19th June we hosted Oswestry School's second Poetry Evening in the drama studio.  The theme of the evening was The Life and Works of Tove Jansson, an inspiring author and artist, whose key themes are love, courage, inclusivity and equality. A number of talented and up-and-coming pupil  and staff poets performed their own original works, some of which followed the Tove Jansson ideas, and some went down another route, such as Ian Hibbert's star turn as up-and-coming rap artist, Pitbull Senior!  Highlights included Angele performing in her native language of French, having only joined the school at Easter, a number of poems performed in pairs and groups, and even a parent who composed his own piece as he sat watching and read it in the Open Mic session!

The audience were hugely impressed by the performances, and those that know the pupils well were delighted to see how their literary skills have progressed so much this year.  Mrs. Lane, who runs Creative Writing Club said "I am incredibly proud of the pupils who have worked enthusiastically all year, encouraging each other and providing a fantastic community for anyone to have a go and writing and reading poetry."
