The Forte Award
Celebrating the Strength and Excelling of Oswestry School pupils

This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster. He was delighted to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

Pedro (U6th Form)
Henry (U6th Form)

In recognition of the hard work, independence, empathy and collaboration you demonstrated when giving a presentation on your country at the Prep School at the end of Trinity Term. Thank you for sharing your culture with our younger learners.

Joseph (1st Form)
Congratulations to Joseph for winning a team silver medal at this summer's World Taekwondo Championships in Glasgow in a competition that saw 1700 competitors from more than 15 countries around the world. A tremendous achievement, particularly having only taken up taekwondo two and a half years ago. Joseph has also been selected to represent Great Britain in the Triathle World Championships in South Africa in December. Two world championships in a year is some achievement!

Anya (U6th Form)
For a fantastic vocal performance in assembly at the end of Trinity Term, sung beautifully and she overcame the feat of performing in front of the school. Well done Anya!

Akaash (L6th Form)
It's been a successful summer in the swimming pool for Akaash who competed in the GB Aquatics Next Generation Championships racing against the very best para swimmers in the UK and making it through to the finals in each one. Later in July he returned to Sheffield to compete in the Swim England Summer Championships where he won both the Open Mixed Classification 50m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly events. Having benefited from being on the National Youth Performance Pathway in the past year and having also benefited from gaining selection to the Talented Athlete Support Scheme (TASS), Akaash has not only found his forte but his combination of talent and hard work has seen him shine on the national stage; a bright future awaits!

Thomas (3rd Form)
This summer, Thomas competed at the European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Lithuania. The qualification rounds saw athletes compete in obstacle course racing (OCR), swimming, and laser shooting combined with running. Thomas qualified for the finals, which reduced 60 of Europe’s strongest athletes to 30, as well as clocking up the fastest laser run time in qualifying. In the final, Thomas placed 13th overall, 3rd in the laser run section, and was the 1st GB U15 boy home. This result also qualified Thomas for the mixed relays with the 1st GB U15 girl. Together, Thomas and his partner put in another outstanding performance, narrowly missing out on a medal position and bringing a 4th place home for Great Britain.

Jeffrey (4th Form)
For a fantastic performance on piano in assembly at the end of Trinity Term; well rehearsed and willing. Well done Jeffrey!

Annabelle (4th Form)
Following the Independent Schools' Football Association (ISFA) summer training camp, Annabelle has been selected for the ISFA Girls' National U15 Football squad, a tremendous achievement and well-earned recognition for an up and coming talent.

Isla (5th Form)
Congratulations to Isla for having been named as a Finalist in the prestigious British Farming Awards. The Awards, which celebrate innovation and dedication across the UK agricultural sector, have recognised Isla for her remarkable contribution to farming at such a young age. Growing up surrounded by the countryside and immersed in agricultural life, Isla has combined passion with hard work to achieve recognition on a national stage.

Ollie (U6th Form)
A huge congratulations to Ollie for having been awarded an Army Scholarship where, following university study, he will progress to Officer Training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Following a demanding process and against fierce competition, Ollie demonstrated the leadership qualities, attributes and abilities to impress the selection panel, demonstrating likewise the Oswestry School values and virtues that have prepared him so well for his next steps towards university study and a career in the military beyond. Well done, Ollie!

Izzy (4th Form)
Izzy worked really hard throughout June to litterpick, to complete her 25kg Litter challenge for June for the theatre fundraiser. It was a really tough challenge to fit around Masters, very variable weather and included some 5.30am starts to litterpick before getting on the school bus. As most litter is plastic, it takes a huge volume of rubbish to get any weight so whole bags of rubbish often only weighed a kilo or so. We are really proud of how she persevered!

This year, with the launch of the 2030 Strategic Plan- Forte - pupils will be recognised for embodying and demonstrating the school’s Values and Virtues.  Underpinning all aspects of school life, Oswestry School’s Values and Virtues are central to our school’s vision and ethos, empowering pupils in their Oswestry journey and enabling all individuals to excel and find their forte.

Oswestry School’s Values are deeply rooted and serve as a firm foundation for positive wellbeing, character development and contribution to society.  Our Values are: Flourishment; Opportunity; Responsibility; Trust; Empathy.

Our Virtues represent a range of skill sets that can be experienced, developed and mastered here at Oswestry School. They are behaviours, character strengths, attitudes and mindsets that enable pupils to thrive at school and flourish in life.
