Under clear blue skies and basking in the bright May sunshine, sport enthusiasts from across Shropshire and Mid Wales gathered for a spectacular day of golf and community spirit at the beautiful Oswestry Golf Club.
Spearheaded by John Gittins OO and fellow Oswestry Golf Club member Keith Probert, the event was a resounding success—combining friendly competition with a powerful purpose: raising funds for Oswestry School’s ambitious Performing Arts Centre appeal.
From powerful drives to precision putts, players from local businesses and the wider community brought their A-game. And with the sun shining down like a spotlight on the action, the day was nothing short of glorious.
The goal was to contribute to a visionary £1.5 million campaign that aims to transform the performing arts landscape at Oswestry School—and beyond. Once completed, the new centre will house a 160-seat theatre, dedicated rehearsal spaces, and a vibrant foyer that doubles as an exhibition area. It’s a game-changer not just for students, but for the entire community.
Oswestry School already boasts a thriving Performing Arts Academy with over 120 talented students from more than 20 local schools. The new centre will provide them with a state-of-the-art home to nurture their creativity and showcase their talents on a professional stage.
Thanks to the generosity of those attending the golf day, a fantastic £3,000 was raised—pushing the campaign even closer to its ambitious goal. With over two-thirds of the total already secured through the support of major benefactors and spirited school fundraising efforts, the dream of a dedicated performing arts hub is well within reach.
John Gittins and his team hope the success of the golf day will inspire others to get involved and keep the momentum going. With more events planned and community spirit running high, the final putt for this extraordinary project is in sight.
