After a series of regional events, the British Schools Shooting National Finals took place at Cannock Chase Leisure Centre on Wednesday, 5th February. Six pupils form Oswestry School stepped up to compete in the Junior Individual event and one Senior pupil joined the individual event...

The qualification round was tough but George G made it through and secured and impressive 8th place overall. Just outside the final cut, Morgan C finished 10th, followed closely by Thomas N(11th), Rory H (12th), Zachary B (14th), and Oscar E (16th).

Beyond their individual performances, three of Oswestry's shooters — Morgan, Oscar and Thomas — were selected as a Junior Team based on their regional results. Their combined scores earned them a spectacular gold medal victory! Huge congratulations to them on this incredible achievement.

The morning's success set the tone for the Senior Individual event, where Upper Sixth Boarding pupil, Hannah S, took center stage. After a tense qualification round, she ranked 5th, securing a place in the final.

The final format was relentless — ten shorts in two groups of five, followed by two shots per round, eliminating the lowest-ranked competitor each time. As the shots fired and the competition thinned, Hannah held her ground, making it all the way to the last two shooters.

Then came the deciding moment: two final shots to determine gold and silver. After the first, both competitors were locked at 202.5 points — it couldn't have been closer! But Hannah held her nerve, delivering a 9.2 shot to clinch victory. The final scores? 211.7 to 210.2 — a razor-thin margin!

Over 24 shots, Hannah's 8.8 average was nothing short of outstanding. To put that into perspective, the eight-ring is just 1.5 cm across — an incredible display of precision shooting and a phenomenal performance.

Adding to the excitement, British Shooting had set up a live score feed via QR code, allowing Hannah's parents to watch every shot in real-time from afar. They witnessed her golden moment unfold, one shot at a time — an unforgettable experience!

Huge congratulations to all our shooters for making the event such a memorable success!
