A small group of lower sixth business students attended a lively and informative talk hosted by Oswestry’s Women in Business Club. The speaker Jools Payne took us through an entertaining look back at her career in marketing and PR , spanning nearly 40 years. Having begun her career at The Oval, Jools worked on many national PR projects, the longest partnership with John Timpson. The focus of her PR for the Timpson Group has been to share their family values, kindness and positive approach to their staff. She is immensely proud of the work she has done for them. Jools also shared interesting anecdotes about several other companies she worked with including Jordan’s cereals and Milupa ( Actimel).
Early on in her career she moved up to the Ceriog valley and has continued to work from there ever since, pursuing her love of cricket and raising her family. Jools has used her extensive business skills and experience to help The Oyster Catcher project ( social enterprise) on Anglesey and closer to home helped set up Oswestry LitFest and Oswestry Food & Drink Festival.
It was a privilege to listen. The presentation illustrated many topics from the A level specification. The talk concluded with a challenge Reputation makers versus Reputation breakers. Our students were part of reputation makers. We discussed and presented 10 key actions which could increase the reputation of a business, whilst the other team discussed 10 actions which would spoil the reputation. A great insight on how to manage people’s perceptions in Business.
