As part of our Founders Day 2024 celebrations, the newly refurbished Holbache House was officially opened by current House parent Steve Schofield, retired Guinevere House mistress Sue Leonard and retired Housemaster of Holbache Peter Jones.

Peter Jones was Housemaster at Holbache for 100 terms - that's 33 years and 1 term!  So it was a fitting tribute to invite him to cut the ribbon on the new co-ed boarding house.

In attendance were Headmaster Peter Middleton, Governor Rachel Warner, our Founders Day guest speaker and past boarder Mira Kovalchuk (OO ‘22) along with current and recent upper sixth pupils and 3 generations of the Jones/Bowd family, who have deep connections the school.  Rachel Bowd, daughter of Jones, is our Sixth Form Coordinator, her husband Phil Bowd is the school Bursar and their children Sophie, Tommy & Will all attend Oswestry School.

The opening marks the completion of Holbache's conversion into a coeducational boarding house for our Sixth Form cohort.  This is an exciting evolution in our boarding provision and is very much focused on our continued vision and aspiration to prepare our pupils not just for school, but for life. The co-educational house will provide a stepping stone experience for pupils in their final years at Oswestry School to experience co-ed living and learning in preparation for university life.
