This Week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster, Mr Middleton, and new Deputy Head CoCurricular & Partnerships from Jan 25, Richard Mahony, who were delighted to be able to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our Winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

Georgia (U6th) and Frank (U6th)
Thank you for taking time to sit with a younger pupil when they were upset. Your time, care and humour made a real difference to that pupil. The sixth form team, and staff as a whole, are so very proud of the caring young people you are becoming.

Tristan (1st)
Tristan is the youngest member of our equestrian team, on the biggest horse! Tristan is working hard to develop his skills with a new horse partnership, both of them are new to Arena Eventing. Tristan consistently displays a hard working, committed and admiral work ethic, with grit and determination applied to every training session and competition. Always positive, with a can do attitude, Tristan is a great supporter of his fellow team mates too. Tristan is the essence of an Oswestry School pupil and is thoroughly deserving of this recognition from both the Equine Team Manager and was also nominated by his fellow team mates. Well done Tristan, your a star!

Jasper (1st)
Jasper has achieved remarkable success in archery this year, setting three GB national records over the summer and earning selection to represent Wales in the Home Nations competition at the Junior National Indoor Championships this December. His dedication and skill are evident in his consistent achievements, including a week of intensive training at the Lilleshall National Performance Centre during half-term. Jasper’s accomplishments are a testament to his hard work, focus, and determination.

Tommy (1st)
Tommy has come a long way since September in his French lessons. He has gone from lacking confidence and thinking he 'can't do it' to believing in himself, answering questions in front of the class, completing his work and feeling proud at what he has achieved.

Josie (U6th)
Josie found out at the beginning of November that she has been offered a place in the ISFA under 18 football squad for this forthcoming season. She will be attending camps at St George’s park in December, Nottingham in February half term and a fixture against Wales in April. Miss Suckley is so pleased that she has managed to retain her place for a third year.

Dylan (3rd)
Dylan has been working on an impressive independent study project on country houses in England and the United Kingdom putting in a commendable amount of research and detail into this ongoing piece of individual work. Dylan's project demonstrates a compelling connection with our country's rich history and heritage, and his enthusiasm for learning and discovery is encouraging to see

Tomi (1st)
Tomi is working incredibly hard at home to develop his further reading skills. He is making a significant extra effort to seek out books he engages with, discussing them in detail with me and then actively requesting other books. The additional work he is putting in is exceptional. Well done!

Nina (5th)
Despite finding physics a challenging subject, Nina has demonstrated a proactive approach to her preparation for the recent mock examinations. She has sought out support from me in her own time after school with specific areas where she has been struggling and has shown great dedication in her revision. This exemplary attitude has been rewarded in her making progress in terms of her confidence in her own ability in the subject and in her attaining her target grade in her physics paper.

Sebastian (1st)
Seb is making huge efforts in French. Not only is he working hard in lessons, he is also learning more French off his own back, in order that he can use the language to work in sports when he is older.

This year, with the launch of the 2030 Strategic Plan- Forte - pupils will be recognised for embodying and demonstrating the school’s Values and Virtues.  Underpinning all aspects of school life, Oswestry School’s Values and Virtues are central to our school’s vision and ethos, empowering pupils in their Oswestry journey and enabling all individuals to excel and find their forte.

Our Values are what we believe in; things that we hold as important and core to who we are. Oswestry School’s Values are deeply rooted and serve as a firm foundation for positive wellbeing, character development and contribution to society.  Our Values are: Flourishment; Opportunity; Responsibility; Trust; Empathy.

Our Virtues represent a range of skill sets that can be experienced, developed and mastered here at Oswestry School. They are behaviours, character strengths, attitudes and mindsets that enable pupils to thrive at school and flourish in life. Our Virtues encourage pupils to be: Analytical; Collaborative; Independent; Innovative; Proactive; Resilient.
