On Monday our A level chemistry and biology pupils visited The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to hear about the fantastic work the Orthopaedic Institute is doing on cell therapy.

The groups heard talks from the research and clinical staff on their work, had a tour around the workstations including confocal microscopy, tissue culture, histology and the cells analysis suite, then chatted to PhD students about their projects and aims.  The main area of research is on growing cartilage cells in a laboratory that can then be used in patients with arthritis and rheumatism, and also as an alternative to joint replacement.

It was a very informative and rewarding visit for our A Level pupils - thanks so much to The Orthopaedic Institute at RJAH for making us so welcome. It was great to catch up with OO, Dr Perry!
