Although the programme is predominantly classical, these are not your run-of-the-mill concerts. Artistic Director Sophia Rahman has a magic touch, always bringing something surprising and extraordinary. Well-known pieces are given a bit of a twist - Bach’s Goldberg Variations, for example, written for keyboard will be played on accordion and strings at the opening concert; The Far Flung Trio bring some Irish craic to Gershwin and Bizet on the Sunday afternoon. Saturday afternoon’s Family Concert has pieces played by talented local youngsters - including our own Emily Osselton on clarinet.
Old Oswestrian, Kizzy Lumley-Edwards, who graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama last year, is one of the professional artists returning to Whittington Music Festival for the third time and will be singing in the Friday concert. Samantha Lewis, Music Director of St Oswalds, will also be singing at the festival for the first time and brings her own unique twist by signing in BSL while she sings.
The full programme can be found, and tickets purchased at https://whittingtonmusicfestival.org.uk. Tickets may be purchased on the door if still available, however the Friday night concert is almost sold out already, so we advise booking online to ensure a seat.
