On Fiday 15 November, we celebrated the Festival of Loy Krathong. To mark this auspition occasion in the Thai calendar we made Kratongs with the Thai pupils, had an interform quiz and tried some delicious Thai food in the Refectory with our Thai staff members who were thrilled to join in the celebrations!

Here is  a brief description of what Loy Kratong is...

Loy Krathong is a traditional Thai festival celebrated on the full moon night of the 12th month in the Thai lunar calendar. It is one of Thailand's most beautiful and significant festivals. People celebrate by floating 'krathongs', small, decorated rafts traditionally made from banana tree trunks or bread which are released into rivers, canals, or ponds. The act symbolizes letting go of negativity, misfortunes, and grievances, as well as making wishes. The krathongs are decorated with candles, flowers, incense sticks and sometimes coins. The candle represents wisdom and enlightenment, while the incense symbolizes purity.
