Geography Trip

Fifth Form geographers, accompanied by Dr Chalmers, Mr Price, Miss Jones and Mr Howell, recently travelled to Yorkshire to complete their GCSE fieldwork, which accounts for 15% of the course.

The trip began with a stop in Leeds, where pupils enjoyed some free time before investigating the success of the South Bank regeneration project. They then continued on to their hostel in York to complete their first round of fieldwork write-ups.

The following day was spent on the dramatic coastline at Flamborough Head, where pupils studied the impact of coastal erosion on the landscape and were even fortunate enough to spot some seals. After lunch in Hornsea, they investigated the effectiveness of the town’s hard engineering strategies in protecting the coast, before returning to York for more write-up sessions.

To round off the trip, pupils explored the city of York itself, taking in its rich history and striking architecture.

This was both an academically valuable and thoroughly enjoyable experience, giving pupils the opportunity to apply classroom learning in the field while also building memories of a rewarding and inspiring trip.
