Sixth Form

Mrs Lang with 2021 Prefects

Oswestry School's Sixth form is about expanding horizons, both in a specialist area of study and more generally in terms of awareness of the world and personal development. Pupils are encouraged to develop interests, to meet challenges, to assume responsibilities, and to gain qualifications. We aim to prepare our pupils not just for university, but for life beyond it. The opportunities here are wonderful; it is these experiences that will help distinguish your application for university and help shape your future.

With more opportunity, freedom and a totally different atmosphere, the Sixth form provides pupils with an ideal learning environment in which to prepare for the world outside.

Life in the Sixth form will be demanding. The privileges and opportunities for independent learning carry with them certain duties and responsibilities. Expectations regarding behaviour are based on respect for all and pupils will be required to show high levels of motivation and a full involvement in school life, as a leader and a role model for the school community.

The School's A-level results are first class, with the majority of leavers proceeding to degree courses at top universities. For those interested and capable, provision for Oxbridge entry is also made, with interview training, advice and coaching given to prepare prospective candidates thoroughly. We pride ourselves on the fact that careful and considered advice is given to ensure passage to the next appropriate stage - every member of the Sixth form, whatever their ability, is given the opportunity to succeed.

Oswestry's A-level exam results are consistently strong and reflect well on the School's ability to get the best out of pupils, no matter what their ability.

This year, 67.5% of grades were A*-Cs, and the majority of departing Sixth formers went on to their tertiary institution of choice. Amongst this year's leavers pupils gained places at Oxford, York, Nottingham and Bristol along with many other top-flight universities. In short, our pupils leave superbly well equipped for the rigours of the outside world.

The Sixth Form Centre

The Sixth Form Centre is located at the top of the campus away from other sections of the School. The SFC is provided as a place of quiet study and recreation. It is designed to give individual students peace and privacy while they work in rooms equipped with desks as well as a place to gather and build friendships.
