Sixth Form Activities

Sixth Form pupil Isaac has set himself the task of tackling the gruelling 3 peak challenge later this year, to raise funds for F.A.I.R. (Funding Auto-Immune Research).

"My name is Isaac, I’m a lower sixth pupil at Oswestry School, who joined recently this September. On the 20th of July at 5:00pm, me and my team will begin our climb of Ben Nevis, and officially mark the start of our 24 hour 3 peaks challenge, our aim is to raise money for F.A.I.R. (Funding Auto-Immune Research).

Autoimmune diseases are among the most complex to diagnose and treat.  There are over 80 types to autoimmune diseases affecting millions of people, every day. These diseases happen when the immune system attacks the body instead of defending it.  They can affect almost every tissue or organ in the body. Autoimmune diseases can affect anybody at any time during their life, resulting in a dramatic and permanent life adjustment. F.A.I.R. has supported a range of research projects nationwide at research facilities including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital; Great Ormond Street Hospital; City St George’s University of London; Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and Leicester Royal Infirmary. F.A.I.R. is run entirely by volunteers so the funds we raise go directly to valuable research.

My motivation to support this charity and take part in this challenging event is because I have close links with the charity in question, and so do the others taking part in this challenge. We are all aware of the seriousness of these auto- immune diseases and once again realised how easily they slip under the radar. How many times have you heard about a large charity raising money for these diseases?"
