Old Oswestrians

We were delighted to welcome back former Head Boy, Myles Wilkinson (2023/24), who returned to Oswestry School this week to deliver an inspiring talk on his journey to Oxford University.

Speaking with the same confidence and eloquence that made him such a memorable figure during his time here, Myles shared invaluable insights into the competitive application process for both Oxford and Cambridge. Drawing on his own experience, he offered practical tips on how to prepare for university, the differences between Oxford and Cambridge, and how to make the most of the unique opportunities Oswestry pupils have at their fingertips.

What shone through most was not only Myles’ deep passion for his subject, but also his determination to encourage the next generation. He spoke candidly about the challenges and pressures he faced, emphasising the importance of resilience, intellectual curiosity, and having the courage to aim high.

Our current pupils were captivated by his words, many noting how motivating it was to hear from someone who had walked the same corridors and shared the same experiences only a short time ago. His message was clear: with commitment and self-belief, pupils from Oswestry School can thrive at the very highest level.

We are enormously proud of Myles and grateful for the time he gave to speak with our pupils. He has undoubtedly sparked ambition in many of those preparing their own university applications, and we look forward to following his journey as he begins his studies at Oxford.
