A Winning Start for Oswestry School’s New Modern Pentathlon Club

UIPM Global Laser Run City Tour - Schools - What a debut!

Congratulations to 21 pupils from across Oswestry School’s Prep and Senior Schools who travelled to Liverpool on Monday to compete in their very first Laser Run event as part of our brand-new Modern Pentathlon Club.

Laser Run combines laser pistol shooting with running, testing speed, accuracy, concentration and determination. Our pupils took on the challenge at the Global City Laser Run event, competing alongside around 500 school athletes, and Oswestry school pupils certainly made their mark!

We are incredibly proud to have celebrated an impressive nine podium finishes:

Gold; Pip (Y5 Boys), Joseph (Y8 Boys)

Silver; Oliver – (Y5 Boys), Charlotte (Y6 Girls), Thomas (Y10 Boys)

Bronze; George (Y6 Boys), Hettie (Y6 Girls), Lottie (Y8 Girls). Maisey (Y12 Girls)

But the success of the day went far beyond the medals. Laser Run is completely new to Oswestry School, and for many of our pupils, Monday was their very first experience of  competing in the sport. They put themselves out there, competed alongside athletes with considerably more experience and stepped outside their comfort zones. That takes confidence, courage and a willingness to have a go. For some, the event may even have revealed a new sporting talent they never knew they had. Most importantly, they embraced the opportunity, supported one another and had fun.

As a non selective school, Oswestry is proud to give pupils opportunities to discover new interests, develop their talents and challenge themselves. A huge well done to all 21 pupils who represented Oswestry School in Liverpool. You should be incredibly proud of yourselves. This is just the beginning for Oswestry’s Modern Pentathlon Club and we can’t wait to see where it takes you next!

The Sunday event featured dedicated individual and relay Laser Run competitions for Pentathlon GB members, acting as the final major domestic racing opportunity ahead of the UIPM World Laser Run Championships in Madeira. With 3 Oswestry School pupils competing; Pip (U13) secured 2 podium places, bronze individual and silver in the mixed relay. Joseph (U15) placed 5th individually, and Thomas (U17) secured bronze individually and a silver with his fellow GB Pentathlon partner in the mixed relay.
