Oswestry School Prep is celebrating after being awarded Gold in both the Sunflower Competition and School Project categories at this year’s Oswestry in Bloom Awards.
The awards recognise the care, creativity and enthusiasm that pupils and staff have put into developing the Prep School grounds and creating a welcoming environment for both people and wildlife.
The School Project Award celebrates the pupils’ work in creating an eco garden, designed to encourage biodiversity and provide a haven for local wildlife. The project has seen pupils play an active role in transforming an area of the school grounds into a space where nature can thrive.
One of the key features is the school’s bee corridor, planted with flowers and plants to provide an important source of food for bees and other pollinators. Pupils have also created spaces to encourage and support a variety of wildlife, including nesting boxes for birds, helping to make the Prep grounds a more welcoming habitat for local species.
The project has provided pupils with the opportunity to learn about sustainability and the natural environment first hand, while taking practical action to improve biodiversity within the school grounds. From planting and caring for flowers to creating habitats for wildlife, pupils have been involved in making a tangible difference to their surroundings.
The Gold award in the Sunflower Competition is another lovely recognition of the pupils’ enthusiasm for growing and caring for plants, and the colour and character they have brought to the Prep grounds.
A huge thank you goes to Oswestry in Bloom for recognising the pupils’ achievements and for all the work they do to bring colour, pride and community spirit to Oswestry. It is wonderful for Oswestry School Prep to be part of an initiative that celebrates the importance of green spaces, community involvement and making our town a more beautiful place to live, work and learn.
Well done to all the pupils and staff who have helped make the Prep grounds bloom!
