From January 2nd to 7th, our school embarked on an exhilarating ski trip to Sestriere with a group of 48 enthusiastic pupils and six dedicated staff members. The picturesque landscape and the vast array of slopes provided an ideal setting for both beginners and seasoned skiers alike.
The ski resort offered a diverse range of slopes, from the gentle blues to the challenging reds and blacks, ensuring that every participant found the perfect terrain to match their skill level. Beginners started on the nursery slope, gradually progressing to longer and steeper blues, while advanced and intermediate groups tackled the more demanding red and black runs, tracking their top speeds and honing their techniques.
One standout mention goes to Woody, a remarkable 1st former who demonstrated exceptional skiing ability by holding his own in the top two groups alongside the 5th and 6th formers. His accomplishment is truly commendable and speaks volumes about his dedication to the sport.
Noteworthy progress was made by Frank and Joe, who transitioned from beginners to the improver group within just two days. Their rapid improvement showcased the effectiveness of the ski program and the commitment of both the pupils and the staff.
The ski trip wasn't just about hitting the slopes, as evidenced by the lively fancy dress antics. From Santa and her two reindeer to Batman, Spiderman, Mario and Luigi, along with a cowboy and a polar bear from the staff team, the slopes were alive with a colourful array of characters!
In the evenings, the sixth formers unwound at the local pub, Pinkys, enjoying socialising and perhaps sharing tales of their day's exploits. The annual quiz brought out the competitive spirit in everyone, with the 'Round of Applause team' emerging victorious. Trips to town and the sports centre, where football and basketball were played, kept everyone entertained and engaged.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Activ4 and Dom Moore for their professionalism as our tour operator. Special appreciation is extended to Mrs. Wilkins, Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Lay, Miss Bainbridge, and Rev. Cranston for their time, dedication, and hard work, both before, during, and after the trip. Without their efforts, this memorable ski adventure would not have been possible. Until the next snow-covered adventure, Sestriere 2024 will remain etched in our memories as a thrilling and successful experience for all.
