Forte Award - 28 March 2025
This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster, Mr Middleton, and Deputy Head (Co-Curricular and Partnerships), Mr Mahony. Both were delighted to be able to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values... This week we were joined by Mrs Katie Farmer, visiting us from St John the Baptist Primary School in Ruyton XI Towns - which was all the more special because Katie is a former pupil of Oswestry School!

 Anna (L6th)
Anna stepped in for an injured pupil and is taking part in their GCSE Dance examination at very short notice. Anna has done so with ease and an exceptional attitude, and has also brought her dramatic style to the body of work. Thank you!

Oliver (4th)
Oliver has been successful in gaining a place on the GB Pathway (Athlete) Development programme and will attend his first camp at Nottingham University then onto Cardiff for further training this Easter.

Thomas (2nd)
Thomas has been working hard since joining the Air Cadets. On an Induction Test Thomas achieved 28 out of 30, the highest in his group. He also admitted that he is being 'rushed through' the course as he has joined late. This is a very impressive achievement, well done Thomas!

Oscar (5th)
Following on from being selected for and representing North East Wales U17 Hockey Team in the Welsh County Championship, Oscar has been nominated for the next phase of the Wales Hockey Player Pathway which runs from April to September. Separately, following trials, Oscar has been selected as keeper for the North Wales U16 Hockey squad that will take part in the Mercia Cup in July.

Brittany (L6th)
Brittany is an amazing STEMM Ambassador - a huge thank you for designing a forensics workshop for Year 6. It was inspirational! Brittany is completing her gold STEMM award and is currently working within the strand of inspiring future scientists. The group had to identify a killer by completing a number of experiments at different stations. They had to learn how to read fingerprints, complete chromatography on different inks as the killer had ink on their hands, identify a mysterious white substance by using biochemical testing, decode two secret messages left by the murderer, and use microscopes to identify different tissues. The group did a brilliant job of completing the tasks.

Wang (L6th)
Wang Qi is an amazing STEMM Ambassador - a huge thank you for designing a forensics workshop for Year 6. It was inspirational! Sophia (2nd)
Sophia has worked hard all year for the two candidates taking GCSE Dance this year. Sophia has given a lot of time to their rehearsals and has gone above and beyond for the candidates. She has taken this opportunity to support her own work and technique and they/we are hugely grateful to her.

Arthur (L6th)
Artie has been a regular attendee of the Headmaster's weekly A Level 'Lunchtime Literature' group and has pro-actively undertaken pre-reading of the various poems and immersing himself fully into discussion and debate. An enthusiastic and engaging student of literature!

Harry (5th)
Harry's attitude to his GCSE revision has been very impressive. He shows incredible maturity and self-awareness with his approach to his studies, putting in considerable extra time in the library, and it is really starting to pay off. It bodes really well for his future. Well done!

Dylan (3rd)
Dylan has really taken responsibility for his learning. He attends regularly to a touch typing intervention in his own time to improve his typing speed.

This year, with the launch of the 2030 Strategic Plan- Forte - pupils will be recognised for embodying and demonstrating the school’s Values and Virtues.  Underpinning all aspects of school life, Oswestry School’s Values and Virtues are central to our school’s vision and ethos, empowering pupils in their Oswestry journey and enabling all individuals to excel and find their forte.

Our Values are what we believe in; things that we hold as important and core to who we are. Oswestry School’s Values are deeply rooted and serve as a firm foundation for positive wellbeing, character development and contribution to society.  Our Values are: Flourishment; Opportunity; Responsibility; Trust; Empathy.

Our Virtues represent a range of skill sets that can be experienced, developed and mastered here at Oswestry School. They are behaviours, character strengths, attitudes and mindsets that enable pupils to thrive at school and flourish in life. Our Virtues encourage pupils to be: Analytical; Collaborative; Independent; Innovative; Proactive; Resilient.
