Forte Award - 17 January 2025
This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster, Mr Middleton, who was delighted to be able to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

Ella (4th)
For an amazing performance of 'In the Bleak Midwinter', 'Once in Royal David's City' and 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' at the end of term Carol Service, 3 in 1. Well Done!

Anna (U6th)
Hearty congratulations to Anna on gaining a significant academic achievement, thoroughly deserved for an exceptional young woman and one who has worked incredibly hard to achieve her ambitions. Well done, Anna - we are all very proud of you!

Ella (5th)
Following Ella's 1st place at the Shropshire Junior Cross Country League; she has successfully been chosen to represent Shropshire in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships in March.

Emily (4th)
In December, Emily was part of the Junior RBC Wind Orchestra who received a Platinum award for their performance at the National Concert Band Festival at Warwick Hall. The adjudicators acknowledged that for an ensemble with children as young as 11 years old alongside members of the National Youth Orchestra, this was an outstanding performance.

Mykola (L6th)
Excellent initiative in sourcing work experience in the local hospital in order to gain experience in his quest to become a medical doctor. He has talked about his work as a volunteer and his experiences gained in the local hospital. He is also pursuing other avenues to gain ever more experience, especially in his current chosen field of oncology. Mykola has also set up his own website - https://thecancerchronicles.uk/ to help others understand advances in the field. All outstanding effort and work that deserves recognition and praise.

Zac (L6th)
Zac represented Oswestry School at the Knole Run at Sevenoaks School, Kent. It was a cold, frozen run with the usual killer hills. Zac had a fantastic run, coming 11th in 29:37 - an impressive improvement of 21 places from last year and a new PB time. His pace is 14 seconds per KM quicker than last year showing the results of his dedicated training plan.

Hannah (U6th)
Hannah has been helping the MFL Department with German GCSE writing papers, giving up her free time to correct the extended writing sections. This has been a huge help to us.

Freddie (5th)
Freddie is to be commended and congratulated for his charity ‘Run Every Day’ challenge through December, raising over £400 for local charity OsNosh. A fantastic effort; well done, Freddie!

This year, with the launch of the 2030 Strategic Plan- Forte - pupils will be recognised for embodying and demonstrating the school’s Values and Virtues.  Underpinning all aspects of school life, Oswestry School’s Values and Virtues are central to our school’s vision and ethos, empowering pupils in their Oswestry journey and enabling all individuals to excel and find their forte.

Our Values are what we believe in; things that we hold as important and core to who we are. Oswestry School’s Values are deeply rooted and serve as a firm foundation for positive wellbeing, character development and contribution to society.  Our Values are: Flourishment; Opportunity; Responsibility; Trust; Empathy.

Our Virtues represent a range of skill sets that can be experienced, developed and mastered here at Oswestry School. They are behaviours, character strengths, attitudes and mindsets that enable pupils to thrive at school and flourish in life. Our Virtues encourage pupils to be: Analytical; Collaborative; Independent; Innovative; Proactive; Resilient.
