Forte Award - 13 September 2024
This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster, Mr Middleton, and Senior Deputy Head, Mr Lane. Both were delighted to be able to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

Oscar (3rd)
Congratulations to Oscar for his golf achievement on Friday 6th September. He finished joint first in the Junior Cross County Competition at Oswestry Golf Club, with a fantastic score of net 42.

Oliver  (4th)
Congratulations to Oliver for being selected for his first Under 17s GB Fencing Squad place. Oliver is heading to Budapest in a few weeks to compete. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to hearing how he gets on.

Josiah  (U6th)
Josiah has worked hard over the year, including morning training at Oswestry school, and in the summer he had the opportunity to attend a try-out for an NBBL (U19 Bundesliga in Germany) team. His hard work paid off and he has joined the TS Jahn Munich for this season. Coaches were very impressed with his talent and were impressed by his athletic ability. Josiah will be training with the team during the holidays and will keep in touch with the team to confirm his spot for next year as well.

Hannah (U6th)
Mrs Keith was lucky enough to be in Guinevere Boarding House on Saturday with Hannah, and watched how she interacted with the other boarders and staff. She is an exemplary role model. She was making drinks for others, tidying away, clearing the laundry, doing her own prep and was the first to volunteer to welcome and show around a new boarder that arrived with the family that afternoon. Hannah conducted tours and gave them a very warm Oswestry welcome. She helped Mrs Keith on duty and reminded her, and others, of the signing in times etc. Thank you so much, the Guinevere girls are very lucky to have you.

Daniel (L6th)
Daniel continues to thrive and flourish as an increasingly impressive young singer, and recently appeared on television with the Johns Boys Male Chorus performing at the Bethlehem Chapel, Rhosllanerchrugog.

Akaash  (5th)
In July, Akaash swam at the British Summer Championships in Sheffield. Akaash qualified for 2 multi-classification events as one of the youngest male competitors, (swimming in the open age group) the 200m IM and 100m backstroke and qualified for both finals. He competed against 5 athletes who had been selected to compete in the Paralympic Games 2024. Akaash also raced in The English Summer Championships, achieving the following results (all open age group and mixed classification): -

50m freestyle - Bronze.

400m freestyle - English Summer Para Champion with an impressive 19 sec personal best time.

100m butterfly - Silver.

In addition, Akaash has been selected for the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme which will allow him access to physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, psychology, nutrition, lifestyle advice and private medical cover at a local university.

Calum (2nd)
Calum undertook some serious diving training over the summer holidays, and managed to attain both the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Qualification, and the PADI Enriched Air Diver Qualification. This required both study and practical sessions which he undertook in the Lake District. Callum is one of the youngest divers to achieve these qualifications. He trained alongside adults and had to reach the same standard, so these qualifications will last him for life.
