NSEA National Schools Show Jumping & Eventing JwS Championships

A team of 7 pupils, parents and our Equestrian Team Manager travelled to Keysoe International Centre in Bedfordshire on Friday 22 October 2021 to compete for 4 days at the NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) Show Jumping and Arena Eventing (Jumping with Style) National Championships.

Over 80 schools from across the UK reached the finals, 600 pupils and horses competed to be placed in converted Championships, all seeking Team or Individual glory. With an average of 140+ riders per class and over 44 teams of 4 riders in every team, competition for placings was always going to be tough. Rosettes were awarded to 8th in every class.

Some of the pupils enjoyed warm-up classes getting their horses used to the arenas, and the atmosphere of the championship. Euan secured 11th place in the 90cm Scurry showjumping class on his own 'Country Bishop's Girl'.

The team narrowly missed out on a placing in the ribbons in the 70cm Show Jumping, coming home in 10th place from 36 teams. The 80cm class had a bumper entry of 189 riders! The team; Shona, Euan, Alexa and Maisey jumped some beautiful clears, going into the evening jump-off. With tight turns at every corner, the team retained their spot to finish an impressive 8th from an original 46 teams. The 90cm class saw Megan and Kimberley compete as individuals with a beautiful clear from Kimberley.

Over to the Arena Eventing; riders compete to reach a given optimum time over 2 phases; show jumping and cross country with marks awarded for rider position, arena craft, reactions and horse and rider partnership combination. Superb rounds from Alexa, Maisey, Freddy and Kimberley in the 70cm class, secured them a team 3rd from 28 teams and over 90 riders. Maisey secured a National 3rd place as an individual, a fantastic achievement for the youngest of our pupils competing there.

The 80cm class moved to the Olympic arena with a technical course that even the most experienced adult riders would find challenging. With 2 teams from Oswestry School qualifying for this class, the pressure was on. Our school round of the class has to go to Shona on Annabel Dibble's 'Pontesford Nipstone', bringing her home in 21st from 188 riders. From 44 teams, our Burgurgy team finished in 6th place and the Blue team in 3rd. A special mention has to go to Alexa, competing in both teams on 2 different horses, well done!

Tremendous National results from our equestrian pupils showcasing their skills and talents, they certainly flew the flag for Oswestry!
