Meet the Coach - Gary Evans

Role at Oswestry School.
Football coach, UEFA B licenced

When did your coaching career start?
My coaching career started at the New Saints after playing football for Welsh Premier League academies including Cefn Druids and a couple of seasons at The New Saints. I then progressed my coaching by moving to Wrexham FC to coach both boys and girls academy teams. I continued working with Wrexham after graduating from University with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and having a summer in America to coach football (which I highly recommend to any sports player or coach).

What do you enjoy most about football?
Football is the only sport I play and coach. Mostly I like the social aspect of the sport and enjoying it with other like-minded people.

What do you want to achieve at Oswestry School?
I would like to improve as a coach and provide the best quality football sessions to develop the pupils to help them achieve their full potential while making the football programme at Oswestry School the best it can be.

Who is your sporting role model?
It has to be Tim Cahill and there will be no points for guessing what football team I support. As you may have guessed, yes, it is Everton.

Best sporting moment?
Leicester City winning the league in the 2015/2016 season is my best sporting moment in history.

Achievement most proud of.
Personally, it is either graduating from University or completing the UEFA B football licence.

What do you listen to before playing or coaching football?
Calvin Harris

What is your guilty pleasure?
Crisps. All flavours!
