As the fundraising concert ‘Songs for Ukraine’ draws closer, Oswestry School are excited to announce that the children will be joined on stage by Ukrainian singer, songwriter, producer, DJ and singing teacher, Dasha Minieieva. The concert is being held on Sunday 8 May at Holy Trinity Church in Oswestry and promises to be a poignant and uplifting evening of unity, solidarity and song. Bringing together over 10 schools from throughout Shropshire: both senior schools and junior schools, state schools and independents.
Dasha will be performing two solo pieces and joining the children in the joint finale, which will see all 200 children coming together in an arrangement that has been written specifically for the cause by Oswestry School’s Director of Music, Aled Phillips.
As a founder and leader of numerous Ukrainian bands Dasha has performed in Ukraine and worldwide (UK, UAE, Germany, Turkey, Malta, China, Switzerland). She has performed at many musical contests (finalist of ‘The Voice’ Ukraine) and has stage-coached many young talents for competitions. Dasha has experience in performing pop, rock, soul, jazz, blues, funk and r’n’b. Along with being a backing singer (studio and live) for the biggest Ukrainian pop and rock acts, including Eurovision performances in 2013 and 2017. As a songwriter, Dasha likes to experiment and mix styles and genres. For the last 2 years, she has been working at Kyiv Municipal Academy of Circus and Performing Arts teaching Vocals and Pop/Rock Choir. Dasha says she has always dreamed of opening a singing and performance school of her own in Kyiv and right before the war began she had started working on the practical details and was very close to making her dream into reality.
Dasha will join two of Oswestry School’s Year 13 Ukrainian pupils, who will be compering the evening, both whom are boarders at Oswestry and whose families remain in Ukraine. Dasha comments “I am so excited to have the opportunity to perform at your wonderful event next week. I cannot thank you enough for what you're doing to support my country!”
