Forte Award - 9 May 2025

This week's Forte gathering was held by our Headmaster, Mr Middleton, and Deputy Head (Co-Curricular and Partnerships), Mr Mahony. Both were delighted to be able to meet with this week's winners and congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. Our winners were selected because they exhibited Forte virtues or values...

We were delighted to be joined by visiting Head of Montgomery Primary School, Sarah Brian, who enjoyed meeting our Forte award winners and former pupils of Montgomery Primary.

Charlie (L6th)
Charlie went out of his way to support a peer that was anxious about the school photograph. Had Charlie not intervened and offered a friendly face, encouragement and empathy his peer would not have had his photograph taken. Thank you so much Charlie you really do deserve all the credit!

Benji (1st)
For being selected for the U13 Shropshire Cricket Development Squad. Benji joined Oswestry Cricket Club as an U9 and was soon training with the U11. Along with a number of boys at the club (and school) he was recommended for county trials and last year he was selected to be part of the North Shropshire District team, (the next tier down from County level). After a successful season last summer, he was invited to U13 trials in October last year and was again invited to join the renamed North Shropshire Development squad. Having attended winter nets with the squad, he has recently been selected to represent the Shropshire U13 Development team against Wrekin school next week. (The Development Team is made up of boys from the North, South and Mid Shropshire U13 squads).

Max (1st)
Max has faced his fears this week and has learnt to ride a bike in his adventure education sessions. Whilst he felt he couldn’t exceed he persevered and got the outcome he deserved. Happy biking Max!

Brodie (1st) , Calum (2nd)
For being selected for the Shropshire County Tennis Training squad. Tennis Shropshire County Training is an initiative which focuses on getting the top 6 players in each age group together on a monthly basis to train together. County Training takes place 8 times throughout the year and regularly compete against other Counties across the Country. The children are incredibly committed to their sport, each player at County Training trains 2-4 times a week for up to 8 hours a week, frequently attending tournaments around the region during their weekends & school holidays. This fantastic achievement requires a huge amount of dedication to ensure they can train hard and continue to achieve at school.

Elisa (5th)
For a week of fantastic practice of a highly difficult piece of piano music (diploma level), in preparation for being the only pupil in school performing at the Chester Music Festival next week. High praise from the piano teacher.

Hector (2nd)
Hector has shown resilience working on the Oswestry School Stand greeting members of the public at a recent marketing event. This pushed Hector out of his comfort zone, and supported fabulous communication skills development. Thank you for all your hard work Hector.

Arina (5th) , Zeya (5th) , Khloe (5th)
For the generous amount of time and effort dedicated to supporting our new boarders in Guinevere House. By thoughtfully guiding them through house routines and offering consistent reassurance, they played a key role in helping them feel settled and at home. Their outstanding leadership and compassion have had a lasting impact on the wellbeing of others in the house, and Ms McGuire is sincerely grateful for their contribution.

Andrew (L6th)
Andrew’s help with the new boarders on Sunday was invaluable. He set such a positive example and was so empathetic. A HUGE thank you!

Oswestry School’s Values are deeply rooted and serve as a firm foundation for positive wellbeing, character development and contribution to society.  Our Values are: Flourishment; Opportunity; Responsibility; Trust; Empathy.

Our Virtues represent a range of skill sets that can be experienced, developed and mastered here at Oswestry School. They are behaviours, character strengths, attitudes and mindsets that enable pupils to thrive at school and flourish in life.
