This week saw the grand opening of our brand new library at Bellan House. Children from each year group joined the celebration to watch our special guest, Carrie Morris, from Booka bookshop cut the ribbon and declare the library ‘open’. Carrie has been a huge influence on our children over the last few years as she not only provides access to quality books in her shop but instils a love of literature by bringing real authors to the children in either live audiences or by streaming directly into the classroom. She also encourages reading through her children’s Book Club and we were delighted that she accepted our invitation to be our ‘Guest of Honour’ to open our new library.
We also had the opportunity to give huge thanks to Mrs Pam Parish who, along with Mrs Caroline Wix, has spent many hours sifting through the books to ensure they are all suitable for today’s audience. She has also been training our library prefects to understand how to arrange and catalogue the books as a real library would. We gave a big thank you to Mrs Corrine McKenna who, through her love of literature and her desire to nurture the same passion in children, kindly donates money each month for the children to spend on new books for our library. Without such wonderful support, the library would not be the wonderful space it has become for our pupils.
