Pupils turn World Book Day into World Book Week!

Our pupils always enjoy World Book Day, so this year they decided to turn it into a World Book Week!

Over two days we welcomed authors and illustrators to talk to children from the primary schools in the area. These visits were kindly organised by Booka Bookstore, and the school’s Momentum Hall was packed out with 800 children on both days.

First to visit were authors Sophie Green, Ade Adepitan (former para olympian) and Konnie Huq (former Blue Peter presenter). They talked about their books, read the opening chapters, and answered questions from the children.

The following day the school welcomes illustrators Jonny Duddle and Alex Milway who talked to the children about pirates and flamingos!

Having been inspired by the visitors the children and staff at Bellan House all dressed up as their favourite book character. It was a riot of colour and costumes!

Headmaster, Julian Noad, commented, “In these days of digital content it is heart-warming to see how many children are still as excited by books as I was when I was young. I must thank Carrie and Booka for their efforts in bringing these authors and illustrators to the school; it gave many of the children of Oswestry an opportunity to meet, and talk to, some of their favourite literary figures.”
